Early days:

Albrecht Altdorfer (1480-1538) was a renowned german painter  and architect of the Renaissance era. He is well known for his landscape paintings  and compositions which were dominated by landscape.

 

Career:

He is well known for his enormous panoramic battle scenes in which his use of lights created movement and drama. On a smaller scale, he additionally  painted some of the first true landscapes.He is well-known for his expansion of landscape as a main pictorial feature.It is believed that he was immensely impressed  by the scenic beauty of  the Austrian Alps when  he travelled  down the Danube into Austria  in the year 1511.Albrecht Atdorfer also made and indepth study about the effects of light .He was the city architect of  Ratisbon and his pictures consisted of sophisticated pictures due to his wide architectural interests.One of his widely appreciated painting includes The Battle of Issus or of (Alexander).His other paintings include St George and the Drago and Susanna and the Elders.

He also had a keen interest in painting spiritual scenes. His best religious scenes are powerful.His most well-known religious painting is The Legend of St. Sebastian and the Passion of Christ that adorned the altar in the St. Florian monastery in Linz, Austria.
