This painting was executed by Georges Seurat. This is considered to be one of his best works. This painting which was executed on a large canvas is set at a park on the banks of the River Seine with a number of Parisians. It took more than two years for the artist to complete this painting. He gave full concentration on the landscape of the park. In order to perfect the form, he went up to the park and spent hours to sketch the exact picture. He also concentrated on issues of colors, form and light. This form of painting is called pointillism which was earlier called divisionism

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Georges-Pierre Seurat was born on 2 December, 1859. He was a French post-impressionist painter and draftsman. His Sunday afternoon is one of the icons of late 19th century painting. A new organization called the Société des Artistes Indépendants was set up by Seurat and other artists including Charles Angrand, Henri-Edmond Cross, Albert Dubois-Pillet and Paul Signac. His works also include The Suburbs, The Laborers, Fishing in the Seine and View of Fort Samson.
